A couple's therapy is essentially a form of psychotherapy that helps you and your partner improve your relationship. Couples therapy can be helpful for resolving a variety of relationship problems, such as recurring conflicts, feelings of disconnection, an affair, or difficulties related to sex or external stressors, and more.

Dialectical Behaviour Therapy for Couples:
There are some couples who experience high levels of conflict. There are times when reactions are triggered in an instant. As a result, they seem to move quickly from anger to harshness, blame, criticism, and hostility. Emotion dysregulation can negatively impact both partners and the relationship.

Many studies have shown that dialectical behavior therapy (DBT) is effective in treating emotion dysregulation problems. Numerous studies have demonstrated the effectiveness of DBT for couples, parents, and families. The DBT approach in Couple/Marriage therapy promotes acceptance and validation of both partners as well as oneself. To gain a better understanding of communication patterns, DBT focuses on bringing awareness to each partner's experience in the present moment.

Emotionally focused therapy (EFT):
EFT focuses on improving the attachment and bonding between you and your partner. The therapist helps you understand and change patterns that lead to feelings of disconnection.

Gottman method:
This method involves addressing areas of conflict and equipping you and your partner with problem-solving skills. It aims to improve the quality of friendship and the level of intimacy between you and your partner.

These sessions will help you learn skills to resolve family conflicts, improve communication, and rebuild trust and connection.

An increasing number of immigrant families with children and adolescents can benefit from family therapy because of intergenerational conflicts specific to the adolescents’ problems/adjustments related to immigration and cultural transitions. Also, sometimes mental health stigma in certain cultures can make it difficult for families to support their adolescents with mental health concerns. Our therapists are culturally sensitive, flexible and mindful of family values and beliefs when delivering family therapy.

I am a huge advocate for seeking help through challenging phases in our life. It is normal to experience complicated emotions and feel lost and disconnected sometimes. It is monumental to understand that struggling with mental health does not make us weak but makes us normal! If you have a mind- you have mental health, and we all struggle with mental and physical health at some point. I am a firm believer in the mind-body connection- our body ascertains and embodies the signs when we are struggling.

Therapy is a journey filled with stories, memories, moments of realization and self-discovery. As we embark on this journey, I will help you raise more awareness about yourself and build a better relationship with your truest self. After working in England for 4 years with adolescents and young adults. I went back to Pakistan, where I worked extensively with the same age group. I helped young individuals struggling with Addiction, Anxiety, Body Dysmorphia, Depression, Eating Disorders and helped them explore their gender and sexuality.

Happenstance played a role in my decision to pursue counselling. However, I have always held strong opinions about taking care of one’s mental and emotional well-being.

My views were further strengthened post two significant life events, the first one being the opportunity to work abroad with adolescents from different cultural backgrounds undergoing significant life stressors. The second was my role as a counsellor providing therapy to women from marginalized communities struggling to overcome their mental health difficulties. Both these instances acted as a turning point in my professional and academic life – I had found my “calling.”

Additionally, one of my many interests includes working with the immigrant and refugee population. My view on therapy is a non-judgmental, client-centred, and collaborative approach specifically tailored to meet clients’ needs.

I speak English, Hindi/Urdu and Bengali
